Japanese Association of Indian and Buddhist Studies
The Japan Association for Indian Studies and Buddhism is currently the largest academic society in the humanities and social sciences in Japan, with more than 1,900 members. Since the founding general meeting was held at the University of Tokyo on October 15, 1951, the year 2021 will mark the 70th anniversary of our founding. With the independence of India and Pakistan after World War II, the need for research on India and Buddhism increased around the world. It was intended to establish a national academic society organization in the fields of philosophy and Buddhist studies.
